We are here to make your pregnancy, labour and birth, and postpartum care an enjoyable and informative experience.
Prenatal care is required for all clients. These visits are intended not only as a safeguard for your health, but to give you the opportunity to learn more about your body and your baby as the pregnancy progresses. Care includes monitoring maternal and fetal well-being, as well as time for questions and discussion. Midwives can order any required lab tests and ultrasounds throughout pregnancy. Midwives believe in informed choice and will take the time to ensure you understand your testing options, and support you in the decisions that you make. We schedule prenatal visits through the week in daytime hours and visits are 30 to 45 minutes in length. Normally, each midwife team has two clinic days per week. The rest of the time we are in the community doing visits and attending women during labour and birth.
Clients are seen every 4-6 weeks until 28 weeks, every 2-4 weeks from 28-36 weeks, and every 1-2 weeks thereafter until delivery. If you must cancel an appointment, please advise us as soon as possible.
Your midwife team will make every effort to ensure that your prenatal appointments occur as scheduled. Please check your voicemail prior to coming to your appointments to ensure it remains as scheduled.
Anyone you choose is welcome to attend appointments with you, we pride ourselves in our family friendly office space.
Midwives offer “one to one” care during your entire labour and birth. Two midwives attend every birth, one for the labouring person and one for baby. Midwives work closely with other members of the health care team, such as Obstetricians and Pediatricians, to ensure clients receive the best possible care if complications arise.
We offer home visits after the birth, typically on day 1, 3, 5, and 10. At the home visit we assess the health of the client and their baby, offer support with chest/breastfeeding and newborn weight checks. Midwives follow clients and their baby until 6 weeks post delivery.
Our office number is: (905) 592-2905
Our regular office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Thursday. We will answer the phone in person when we can, but if you get our voice mail in non-emergencies leave a message with your full name and your work and home phone numbers. We are attentive to your messages and we try to return them promptly, however, if you leave a message for your midwife it may not be received by her until the next clinic day.
Pager Number: 1-877-690-3699
This pager number is for urgent midwifery concerns. If you are in labour, needing an assessment, have an urgent chest/breastfeeding concern or would present in the emergency department, do not hesitate to page. Any non-urgent concerns should go through the office the following business day. The paging service is automated. You can navigate the directory by midwife name or dial by extension and leave your message. Your message will then be sent to your midwife. If your midwife has not returned an urgent page in 10 minutes, dial the paging service again and use the emergency extension to explain your situation.
Technology is not infallible. If you need care and have not been able to contact your midwife, please access other community health services (ie hospital). A specific list of midwifery emergencies follows. For non-pregnancy related medical problems, please contact your family physician.
